Where to start, what to learn in order, and free labs for every step - no degree required.

Cybersecurity Roadmap for Beginners (Free, Hands-on)

If you want into cybersecurity but do not know where to start, this is a realistic, free order to learn in - and every step has hands-on labs you run in your browser, no VM or install. You do not need a degree to begin; you need to be able to do the work and explain it.

Step 1 - Linux and the command line

Almost everything in security happens on or against Linux. Get comfortable in a terminal with the free Learn Linux course (or just open the online terminal and start typing). Keep the commands cheat sheet handy.

Step 2 - Networking

Understand IP, ports, DNS and how packets move. The free CCNA course builds the foundation; the Network Traffic Analysis course teaches you to read real packet captures. Our subnetting cheat sheet helps the part everyone finds hard.

Step 3 - Programming basics

You do not need to be a developer, but reading and writing simple scripts is a force multiplier. Start with the free Learn Python course.

Step 4a - Offensive (red team)

Learn how web apps break with the free Web Pentesting course (SQLi, XSS, SSRF, IDOR and more - 26 labs), then escalate on a real box in Linux Privilege Escalation. See the OWASP Top 10 with labs.

Step 4b - Defensive (blue team / SOC)

Prefer defence? Work real logs and alerts in the free SOC Analyst course and Blue Team course. See how to become a SOC analyst.

Step 5 - Prove it and get interviews

Finish courses, keep notes on what you did, and prepare with our SOC analyst and penetration testing interview questions. Real, demonstrable practice is what gets a beginner hired.
