Frequently asked questions

Is this a real Linux terminal?

Yes. It is a real Linux machine (Debian) running inside your browser with WebAssembly - not a simulation. You can create files, install packages with apt, manage users and run real commands. Nothing you type can harm your computer.

Do I need to install anything or sign up?

No. The terminal runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install and no account is needed to use it. The first start downloads about 20 MB, then it is cached.

What can I practise here?

Everything in a normal Linux shell: navigating the file system, permissions, users and groups, pipes, grep, shell scripting, packages, processes, networking and systemd. Press Reset any time for a clean machine.

Is it free?

Yes, completely free. For a guided path from the basics to confident use, follow the free Learn Linux course, where every lesson has a hands-on lab on the same machine.
