The report is the product

Why the write-up matters

You can own every box on the network, but if the report doesn't land, nothing changes. The write-up is what the client pays for and what engineers act on. A good report is reproducible (someone else can follow your steps), prioritised (the worst issues are obvious), and actionable (it says how to fix each one, not just that it's broken).

It usually opens with an executive summary for non-technical readers — overall risk, the headline issues, the business impact — followed by the detailed findings for the engineers who'll fix them.
