Linux lab Beginner 5 tasks 10 points

Get your bearings in the package system. Search the repository and read about packages, all without installing anything. (Searching and reading need no sudo.)

How it works: the terminal below is a real Linux machine running in your browser. Click it and type. Tasks tick themselves off as you complete them; questions are answered in the box under each task. Press Reset any time for a fresh machine. Your password on this machine (for sudo) is student.

Getting your Linux machine ready…
The first start downloads about 20 MB. After that your browser keeps it, and labs start in a moment.

Hints

None of this lab needs sudo: you're only reading.

Solution explanation

Reading the catalogue never needs root. apk --version shows the manager is apk. apk info -d htop prints its description, and apk info -R jq shows it needs the oniguruma library. apk info --who-owns traces an installed file back to its package, and apk search dumps the whole repository.
