Read the Permissions
The vault folder in your home directory holds the ship's papers. Some belong to you, some to the captain. Read their permissions with ls -l to answer the questions, then fix one of your own files.
How it works: the terminal below is a real Linux machine running in your browser. Click it and
type. Tasks tick themselves off as you complete them; questions are answered in the box under each task.
Press Reset any time for a fresh machine. Your password on this machine (for
sudo) is student.
Hints
The permissions are the first column of ls -l: owner, group, others.
Solution explanation
ls -l vault shows everything at once. map.txt is rw-r----- = 640, owned by captain with group officers. launch.sh is rwxr-x---, so the group may run it. orders.txt is r-------- (400): read-only, even for its owner. chmod 600 (or chmod go-rw) makes your log private.
Show solution
ls -l vault
ls -ld vault/secret
chmod 600 vault/log.txt
