See What's Scheduled

Linux lab Beginner 3 tasks 10 points

A scheduled job called sweep has been set up on this machine. Find it among the timers, see what it triggers, and confirm it's active. (Listing timers needs no sudo.)

How it works: the terminal below is a real Linux machine running in your browser. Click it and type. Tasks tick themselves off as you complete them; questions are answered in the box under each task. Press Reset any time for a fresh machine. Your password on this machine (for sudo) is student.

The first start downloads about 20 MB. After that your browser keeps it, and labs start in a moment.

Hints

--all includes timers that aren't currently active.

The ACTIVATES column (or systemctl show ... -p Unit) names the service.

Solution explanation

systemctl list-timers --all lists every timer and the service it activates. A timer by convention starts the service with the same name, so sweep.timer starts sweep.service (which systemctl show sweep.timer -p Unit confirms). is-active shows the timer is running and waiting for its next scheduled time.

Show solution
systemctl list-timers --all --no-pager
systemctl show sweep.timer -p Unit --value
systemctl is-active sweep.timer
