Install the Right Tool

Linux lab Beginner 5 tasks 10 points

You need jq to pull a value out of a JSON file, and htop to watch processes. Install them, use jq, then remove it again. Installing needs sudo; your password is student.

How it works: the terminal below is a real Linux machine running in your browser. Click it and type. Tasks tick themselves off as you complete them; questions are answered in the box under each task. Press Reset any time for a fresh machine. Your password on this machine (for sudo) is student.

Getting your Linux machine ready…
The first start downloads about 20 MB. After that your browser keeps it, and labs start in a moment.

Hints

add and del need sudo; the password is student.

apk info -e NAME is the quick way to check if something is installed.

Solution explanation

sudo apk add jq installs jq and the library it needs. jq .crew ship.json reads the value 12. sudo apk del jq removes it (and the library, since nothing else uses it), while htop stays. apk info -e prints the name only when a package is installed.
