Your first router configuration
A brand-new router has arrived for the branch office. Open its console, give it its name, stop it trying to look up mistyped commands, have a look at its interfaces, and save your work.
How it works: this is VulnTech NetLab, a network simulator running in your browser. Click a device in the diagram to open its console and type commands, just like on real equipment (? shows help, Tab finishes a word). Click a cable to inspect it. Tasks tick themselves off as you complete them; questions are answered in the box under each task. Your work is kept if you reload; Reset starts the network over.
Hints
The prompt changes as you move between modes: > then # then (config)#.
Saving asks for a file name: press Enter to accept [startup-config].
Solution explanation
You used enable and configure terminal to reach global configuration, set the hostname, and switched off the DNS look-up that makes typos freeze the console. show ip interface brief listed three GigabitEthernet ports, all administratively down because a new router's ports start switched off. Finally copy running-config startup-config saved everything to NVRAM.
