Fix the channel plan

NetLab lab Intermediate 4 tasks 20 points

Users complain the Wi-Fi is slow and drops. The two APs are close together, both on 2.4 GHz. Look at their settings and fix the channel plan so they no longer interfere, staying on 2.4 GHz (the old scanners in the warehouse only do 2.4). Use only non-overlapping channels.

How it works: this is VulnTech NetLab, a network simulator running in your browser. Click a device in the diagram to open its console and type commands, just like on real equipment (? shows help, Tab finishes a word). Click a cable to inspect it. Tasks tick themselves off as you complete them; questions are answered in the box under each task. Your work is kept if you reload; Reset starts the network over.

Solution explanation

2.4 GHz channels are 22 MHz wide but only 5 MHz apart, so channels 1 and 3 overlap almost completely: the two APs talk over each other and frames are lost. Channels 1, 6 and 11 are far enough apart not to overlap. With AP2 on 6, each AP has its own clean channel.
