The exam
The CCNA 200-301 is one exam, about 120 minutes, with roughly 100 questions. You can't go back once you've answered, so don't rush. Question types:
| Type | What it is |
|---|---|
| Multiple choice | One or more correct answers (it tells you how many) |
| Drag and drop | Match terms to definitions, or order steps |
| Sim / lab | A simulated device or small network: you type real IOS to configure or fix it |
| Testlet | A scenario with several questions about one topology |
A plan for the two hours
- Triage. The sims and testlets are worth the most and take the most time. Some people do them first while fresh; others leave them to last so the clock doesn't eat the quick wins. Decide beforehand.
- Don't get stuck. You can't return to a question, so give each a fair go and commit. A minute of doubt on a 1-point question is a minute stolen from a sim.
- Read the whole question. "Which two" and "will NOT" change everything. Note the exact wording.
- On a sim, verify. Configure, then
showandpingto prove it. Save withcopy running-config startup-configif asked. - Eliminate. On multiple choice, strike the obviously wrong answers first.
Tip: The weightings: Network Fundamentals ~20%, Network Access ~20%, IP Connectivity ~25%, IP Services ~10%, Security Fundamentals ~15%, Automation & AI ~10%. IP Connectivity (routing, OSPF) is the biggest - make sure it's solid.
Remember: ~120 min, ~100 questions, no going back. Budget time for the sims. Read "which two" and "NOT" carefully. On sims, verify with show and ping.
